Still Working

Still working. Not so much with the knitting. Got 2/3 fof the ribbing on the bottom of Tomato done.

Weird thing while at work today. the phone rang and the caller id just showed a number, no name. The area code was one I didn't recognize. I think it was 402? I could be wrong. 4-0 something at any rate. When I picked up the phone there was a pause (which usually means telemarketer) and a woman came on the line and asked if our address was what she had. It was. Then she asked what type of business this was. Which is odd, since the name of the business ends in"-Pharmacy". Besides, how did she get our address and not name? At that point I told her to call the boss tomorrow. I had visions of a huge order of printer toner that we didn't order showing up or something.

There are unscrupulous companies out there that call, get addresses and names and then just ship out stuff. Or send an invoice without stuff! So I wasn't going to open the business I was temping at to that problem if I could help it.

If you are reading this and are the lady on the phone AND you had honest intentions, I apologize. Otherwise, please don't call back!

Brush with Fame

Today someone most of us know from Saturday Night live and The Blues Brothers walked into the store I was working at!

Yup, Dan Akroyd came in to do a little shopping. I guess it was such a nice day, he decided to get on the motorcycle and go out for a spin. He has a summer house in the area.

And that was the excitement for today.

Time to Change!

Change number 1 is knitting related. It's time to start ribbing on Tomato! Yippee! Of course, ribbing can be irritating too, but it's a whole different kind of irritating. So, thus, better. Right?

Tomato Knit Top

Onwards with the changes. The second change I have decided is that I need to look after myself better. This means eating better and exercising more. Actually lately, it's more like exercising at all.... To this end, I have started a new blog. Paved With Intent. As in the quote," The road to hell is paved with good intentions." So I am going to take my intent and not go to hell with it. If that makes any sense to you. This new blog is linked over in my sidebar and will have snippets of health related news as well as a diary to where my intent is going.

Feel free to drop by, offer advice, criticism and commiseration. Or whatever.

The Truth, the Whole Truth

I am afraid I have not been entirely truthful with my faithful readers. I did, indeed, work on Tomato after my post from the other day. For 1 whole row.

You see, I got a new book. The siren song of new words overpowered the tedious call of stockinette. Shocking to you all, I'm sure.

So I have been doing half a row or so here and there. In between reading "The Name of The Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. At first I wasn't so sure I was going to like this book. Then, after a chapter or so, it sucked me in with the power of a black hole. Where most of my time is going. And not much comes out.....

So, today, a picture of an old knit.
A garter stitch shawl I made a while back. As you can see, it makes an excellent kitty bed, in Pagan's opinion. As does my husbands bathrobe,

Or even my pillow:Wouldn't want to actually use one of the 3 catbeds I bought and placed strategically around the house! What a waste of money that was. I should have known better.

Won't make that mistake again! So, I am off to knit on Tomato, kinda, and read some more, definitely.

Right after I enter Crafting Jen's contest. I dunno if I'd want the book. But the stitch markers would be cool.

Yay!

I finished the never-ending hubby sock!

Grey Husband Sock

The toe looks a bit discoloured, but that's just the flash. I was soooo excited to have finished these socks. I started them with the best of intentions. But the hubby has big feet. So I got tired of knitting them about 3/4 of the way through.

I'm off to work on Tomato a bit.

And the Queue gets Longer

I picked up the new Interweave Knits yesterday. I have seen much to-do over Eunny's Tangled Yoke cardigan. I have to say it didn't impress me that much. It's nice, but it seems too precious for me. I am a woman who loves her bolds and brights. My hubby says I'm like a crow. If it's shiny or bright, I want it. But I digress.

I did like the Dickinson Pullover.

The big, bold cables look like a lot of fun. This sweater embodies a lovely weekend, comfort level to me.

I also quite liked the sweater on the back cover of the magazine.

I always like wrap tops or faux wraps. I particularly like the bottom on this one. The fact that it is quite close to the body gives it a nice, fitted look.

But I think the cable sweater would get precedence in the afore-mentioned cue. I am a slouchy, relaxed kind of person, I think. Occasionally I like to get dressed up, but my go-to clothes are pretty much, things that I throw on and go....

And now I am going to go vacuum my house. All three floors. Because it is NOT a billion degrees out, this seems an opportune moment. Besides, if I don't vacuum soon, it will be difficult to distinguish the cats from the dust bunnies.

It be CATURDAY!

I'm still knitting on the army sock. The foot's longer. Y'all are imaginative, just imagine the same sock with a longer foot. Tomato is still chugging along too. Ditto on the Tomato & imagination thing.

If you want to see a cute lolcat go here and check it out. I captioned it, Selena K took the pic! An adorable collaborative effort if you ask me.

But I don't want to disappoint those of you who like pictures on this here blog either. Thus:

Lambs and stuff

Apparently, sheep are good for other things than wool! A winery in Niagara has sheep doing their pruning for them. Now I'm tempted to buy wine. It would make a good numbing agent.
Why would I want numbing? Let me show you a couple of illustrative pictures:

This is the toe about 12 hours after smacking it a good one on the bed. After a further 24 hours, we have bruising:

That's right, yesterday, while walking by my bed, as I have done umpity billion times, I kicked the leg of the bed. Quite hard, as you might imagine.

Very painful. Take-your-breath-away-can't-swear kind of painful.
There's nothing that can be done for a broken toe other than stay off it and keep it elevated. Not exactly fun. On the bright side, I can still knit! See:

I have turned the heel on the hubby's Army sock and am in the backstretch. I am still knitting on Tomato. But that is just more stockinette. Picture the last shot I showed you but longer. Not nearly as exciting as turning a heel. I always feel clever when I turn a heel.

I'm off to put my foot up and find some numbing agent...

Cheers!

What I do at Work

This week I am covering an entire vacation for someone. Which means I am working a very looong week. I actually don't like to work more than 4 days a week. That extra day off gives me a chance to get stuff done without feeling rushed. Anyhow...So, I am working alot this week. But there is some downtime at this store. So this is what I have been doing in between surfing the forums on Ravelry....

Don't let that picture fool you. The leg is only about halfway done. This sock is for the hubby and he wants it long. Like, knee-high on me long.

In addition to the fun of working 9-6 every day this week, I have had a headache since Tuesday. Every. Single. Day. This happens once in a while and I can totally blame it on hormonal swings, but knowing why I hurt doesn't really help much. Thank goodness for ibuprofen and acetaminophen!

I'm off to chug a gallon of water. Maybe it will help....

A Boring Progress Post

I finally have some knitting to show you. The Tomato top continues:

I have finished the waist shaping and am now on the straightaway! Vroom! Vroom!

Unfortunately, I am ALSO working a lot this week, so my speedy lame-ass efforts will likely not yield much.

We shall have to wait and see.

Wherein I say Nothing

Yup, you got it right. A whole lot of NUTHIN going on around here. Except for working my ass off. And still eating soup-like substances. Although I figured out what the problem with the bloody root canal was. The filling was too high!

Yup, I was lying in bed prodding at my sore tooth and wondering why, after 3 different types of antibiotics, it still hurt. I figured at this point the only bacteria left in my body must be in the tooth! Which still hurt like a mo-fo. Suddenly I thought, "wait a minute! Why does the tooth
on the top hurt????" I went into the dentist the next day and he had me bite down on a little piece of carbon paper. Now, we had done this twice before. But the first time I bit down, I was still frozen from the procedure. The second time I hurt a LOT. So I didn't bite down very hard. This time I clamped down hard. The dentist looked and went "WOW! Yup, that's high" and filed a lot of the filling down. I feel much better now. But now that the pain has mostly subsided, I can still feel the damn filling. So I'm gonna hafta go back and have him file it some more.

Moral of the story boys and girls??? Bite HARD.

Iz Yer Kitteh az Dumb as Mine?

No knitting around here. Still trying to figure out what the damn problem with the root canal is. Not in the mood to knit.

Besides, it's hot. Like 31C hot. Like 38C with the humidex.

And my cat

is so dumb that, if I were to have an imaginary conversation with her (what, you don't put words in your pets mouth?) it would go like this:
Pagan: Momma, it's hot. It makes me not feel good.
Me: Go upstairs. We have a cool room set up just for you.
Pagan: But it's too hot. Can I snuggle on your lap? That always makes me feel better.
End conversation
Because what you want when the heat is through the roof, is a nice, furry, overheated blanket on your lap.
We have 1 room in the house that we keep air conditioned. We have a heavy curtain up so the old cats can come and go to cool off. Micha gets it. I find her upstairs periodically sprawled out on the floor. Pagan will stay in the living room, panting, and still not go upstairs. Unless I spend all of my time up there. Then she will come for a visit and incidentally, cool off.
How dumb is your pet?
