Quality Control

I would like to start off by confessing that I am not actually going anywhere on my vacation. which starts at the end of June. I just don't have to go do any work. I am planning a craftapallooza, though. All kinds of home-made things will be attempted. Whether any of them turn out is whole 'nother story, I suspect. Or I just may sit by the MIL's pool drinking daquiris. Either would be good.

Moving on....

The blankie grows but slowly.
It undergoes rigorous inspection by not one, but 2 highly qualified fiber experts:

I suppose that is why it takes time. The inspectors carefully check out all the bits and pieces. This kind of quality doesn't happen overnight you know.

Overall, I am pleased with it. I wasn't sure at first, since most of the mitred square projects I have seen had more than 3 colours in them. But I think this will work just fine.

Working Too Hard

You know you've been working too hard when the following happens:

(bear in mind that I am a pharmacist)

Me: Honey, why is there an ostoforte pill on the table?

Hubby: What???

Me: That pill on the table next to my glass.

Hubby: That's not a pill...

Me: Yes it is.--(reaches over to pick it up. fingers go through the "pill" whereupon the discovery is made that it is actually a dab of plum sauce from dinner that landed on the table....)

Vacation can't come soon enough for me!

Hell Square

It is done! I showed it who's boss. Also my headache finally abated last night and let me pay proper attention to what I was doing....

That'll teach that yarn a lesson or two. Hopefully the lesson will stick and there will be no more recalcitrant squares.

KWM-Not Recommended.

Apparently, practice does NOT make perfect. Despite having knit up a few of these already, I still managed to screw up the decreases down the middle.

That was the first time I had to frog back. I have since frogged back twice more for the same reason. This particular mitred square is giving me a migraine. Oh wait, I already have a migraine. Perhaps that is the problem. KWM (knitting with migraine) syndrome.

In that case, maybe I should out down the knitting needles for a bit. Here, let me entertain you:

Cubist Knitting!
And photocopied knitting!

That's the extent of my artistry. I think my head is going to explode. Maybe that's the cause of migraines. The internal pressure of my head is exceeding capacity and if it continues unabated, my head explodes. Hopefully not on the alpaca.

Ciao for now. If you don't hear from me, bring mops and bukkits!

Slogging Along

The weather is dreary, damp and icky. Going outside means slogging through it all. So, instead, I am staying inside and slogging in another fashion.

Although slogging is perhaps not the right word here. Knitting up mitred squares is a nice, fairly mindless way to spend a dreary Victoria Day weekend.

Lest you think that I am not paying close attention to the knitting, I have a quality control inspector who will point out any issues that may crop up.

So far, the inspector has been pleased. Thank goodness. Imagine the damage that would ensue if he wasn't!

She Scores!

I totally scored at shopping today. One of the things I love is luxury bedding. I will spend a fair chunk of change to have nice, high thread count sheets. The highest I have been able to find up to now has been 600. They were wonderful. They wore out. I was sad. I had to replace them with 300 thread count. Nice, but not AS nice. Then today, I saw a sign advertising a sale. For these:

Let me show you that number up close:

***SQUEE!!!!***for a grand total of $200!!! **SQUEEE!!**

I'm washing my bedding as we speak. Tonight it is time to roll myself up in luxury!

Lies, Damn Lies...

Back in October when we got Raven from the Humane Society, they told us he was about 3 years old.

We tried giving him some catnip and he didn't seem to care one way or another for it. Which is possible. Some cats don't like it. However, young cats also don't respond to it.

The other day I put some catnip down for my 2 older girls and Raven joined in with the rolling around and stuff. So, apparently, he was even younger than we thought, all those moons ago.

So much for getting an older cat who had outgrown the kitten-crazies!

NEXT!

With the Mansocks done, it was time to move on to the gift knitting. Specifically a large knitted object or 3 for some siblings. Not my siblings. They are siblings to each other. There, clear as mud.

Aaaaaaaaanyway, my sister started on her share of the LOK (Large Object Knitting), so I figured I'd better get a move on and start on my part.

I am aware that some of you may be able to figure out what this is. I'm not worried about that. The giftees don't know about my blog, or if they do, they don't look at it. And if they do, they won't know it's for them and/or will have to act surprised when we give them the presents anyway! Again, clear as mud, right?

I seem to be cranking out 1 a night. Don't know if I'll be able to keep this up longterm, but I've got a while to finish this. so even if output slows down, no biggie, so long as I keep churning away.

'Scopes

I am pleased to report that both the upper endoscopy (esophageal) and colonoscopy went well and I am clean.

When I was doing the prep work, I tried to find some experiences of others on the web and didn't find much. So I am going to put mine out there. If you are not interested or grossed out easy, don't keep reading. No knitting content today.

Endoscopy: The prep used was as follows, 2 nights before the procedure take 2x5mg tabs of bisacodyl. The day before the procedure, take 1 sachet of Pico Salax at 3pm and another sachet at 8pm.

I was expecting rather dramatic results. The morning before the procedure I had a large bowel movement (due to the bisacodyl no doubt). Then, I didn't eat much all day as all I was allowed was clear stuff, like Jello and consomme.

At 3pm I mixed up the first sachet and chugged it. It didn't taste too bad. Kind of orange-y. The aftertaste was pretty bitter, though. So you might want to have something nearby to kill that taste.

I drank at least 8 ounces of water or gingerale every half hour. Not much bathroom action until around 5:30 or so. And then, not very dramatic. I was expecting much worse.

I drank the second sachet at 8pm. After an hour, then it started to kick in. Still not as dramatic as I had thoght. It did go on until about 11:30pm. At which point I went to bed. I did have to get up once in the night, but that was it. And it wasn't painful. My bum was a little raw, but it feels fine today (the next day.)

I didn't eat anything from then till after the procedure.

At the hospital, they hook you up to an IV line and dope you up. I didn't feel very stoned. the doctor had me turn onto my left side and started to feed the scope in. I could see on the tv. Kinda cool. There were a couple of places that were kinda painful, not awful, but I KNEW where the scope was, I can tell ya! Then the doctor pulled it out slowly and looked for polyps and abnormalities as he went. That was it. Not bad at all.

Upper Endoscopy: This one is to check the esophagus for cancerous changes as well. They feed a scope in your mouth and go down to take a look. They start out with you on your side and give you drugs to relax you (I had them still in me from the first procedure) and then they spray something into your mouth to numb the throat a bit. That tastes gross. Bitter. At that point a round plastic thing is put in your mouth with a hole in the middle. That lets you bite down, but they can still feed the scope in through the hole in the center. You really have to concentrate on breathing. Just to keep from gagging the whole time. You will still gag once or twice no matter how hard you try. Thankfully, that is a quick one as the esophagus isn't that long.

The good part about that is that if there are no changes in the esophagus and you are over 40, then there probably won't ever be and you don't have to wonder about esophageal cancer. Or do this test again.

And that is all folks!

Mansockiness Continued

Work on the second Mansock continues. It would be farther along, but I forgot to bring it to work with me. Darn. And it was a really slow day too, I would have gotten so much done! The trials and tribulations of being a knitter.

The grey is really neat. It isn't uniform, but it doesn't look really varied either. The hubby approves.

Today is devoted to cleansing. Given my family history it is time to do a colonoscopy. Oh fun. Yeah. Have you done yours? And that concludes my Public Service Announcement.

Attempt 2, Take 2

See, I can too count to 2. I have the second Mansock on the needles! Successfully, I might add.

That's about an inch and a half of Mansockiness.

Now if I'm ever going to finish them, I need to go knit.
