My first socks

Yippee! Today I finished my first pair of socks.

They are made from Regia.

I am really pumped about them, even if they are not perfect! The little mistakes that I made are invisible due to the wonderful variegation of the yarn. Yay for variegation!

My lace project continues. Sorry no picture today, you will have to wait. Tonight was daquiri night and cameras and daquiris don't mix.

To be continued...in a day or so. My sister is coming down for the long weekend and I plan on being really busy. Doing things like tanning by my MIL's poolside, gossiping with my sister, hearing the dirt on my step-SIL from the MIL......

no knitting today!

Today was sewing day. Actually, yesterday and today was sewing day. A while ago I made new curtains for the living room, and my hubby fell in love with a 2nd fabric. so I promised him I would make pillows out of it. He originally wanted curtains. I thought the fabric was a bit bright for that. However, I could live with pillows. So pillows it was. However, yesterday my sewing machine decided to have a mind of it's own. The first pillow went ok. The second one, the bottom-side stitches decided to turn into a tangled mess!

See? See? How irritating! An hour later I figured out the problem. Apparently the way the thread loaded onto the bobbin was incorrect. Why it worked for the first pillow is beyond me. So I rewound the thread onto an empty bobbin and we were off to the races. Until I ran out of thread! Which necessitated an emergency trip to my local department store.

However, they are finally done!

Voila! 5 pillows all done up!

In other news, today I picked up my new hearing aids. These are Phonak brand, Savia model. They have more gadgets than the space shuttle! I am still figuring out when to use what program. There is one for quiet situations, one for noisy situations, one for use on the phone, one for reverberant room (haven't quite figured out what that means). There is a remote control to help flip from one program to another and to control volume. All this and it also has an "auto-pilot" which switches from one program to another.... But..they work! which is the point. However, I think I am going to get them to up the volume a little. They seem a little quiet compared to my others....We shall see after I use them for a day or 2.

Finally! Forward motion!

So the pink lace project seems to be progressing. I haven't messed up so bad I need to frog it, and in general looks the way I had pictured in my head. Yippee!

Yesterday was hubby's b-day, so didn't get much done. Went to the MIL for dinner where we both worked on our knitting. Me on my sock and she on her afghan. Ahhh companion knitting! Hubby whined about my travelling with knitting. Of course the first thing he and FIL did was turn on the tv to watch baseball. Not that much different than my bringing something. Not that hubby wouldn't bring a tv everywhere he went if he had one small enough....

cat talk

Ok, no real knitting news to report, so here are acouple of pics to keep you amused!

This is Micha. In October 2004 she was diagnosed with bowel cancer. They operated and told us it was a particularly invasive type and that she would probably not live for more than 3 months. She is on a monthly steroid shot to suppress any cancer that is growing (and no, the glowy eyes is from my camera skills, not the steroids!) so far she is going strong.

This is Pagan. She is the queen of the household. And that is my knitting bag she is in! I turned around for a second and voila!

Here is a better shot of her ignoring my knitting. What you can't see is the tail twitching madly. she really wants it!

vacation, I think

Alrighty. I am officially on vacation! Yippee! Although I will be spending a fair bit of time doing oh-so-fun things like taking the cat to the vet, picking up my new hearing aids, getting them checked out by the audiologist and on and on...

I hope to cram some knitting time in there. At least finish the socks!

lacing and lacing and lacing

Ok, I have cast on for the 4th time with the pink boucle Fleece Artist yarn for a lace wrap.

The first time it just went wrong. The second time I didn't like the way it looked. The third time I screwed up. Hopefully this time it will work. Please.

The yarn is lovely, but what a pain to work with. This is the first time I have worked with a boucle and I keep snagging the little loops with my working needle and getting snarled up! Hopefully I will get the hang of it, 'cause I really like the yarn.

ciao for now!

Still here!

Nope, I'm not ignoring y'all, but life keeps interfering! BUT, I have a F.O.!! Yippee!

It's felted purse made out of Paton's Classic wool. The pattern is at : http://www.masondixonknitting.com/

I have also been cooking. I try to make my meals ahead of time on my days off so that when I'm working I can just pull something out of the freezer. Saves money and I don't eat as much junk! Check out my freezer:

That's all she wrote, folks!
