MOAR RAIN!

It's been raining so much around here, even Basement Cat is giving it the evil eye. From under an umbrella of course. Wouldn't want the fur to get mussed.

Cat Bed

Over the weekend,I did a little ironing. Since I don't have an ironing board, I use an old beach towel over my table as an ironing pad. Then I had a fit of the lazies and didn't put the towel away. This evening we found Elvis on the table sleeping on it. So we put the towel away. It got me to thinking. She tends to retreat downstairs to an old chair in the basement. Maybe she needs a defined space as 'hers' upstairs. When Micha left us, I had put away the knitted blankie she liked. This seemed like an opportune moment to dig it out. The husbeast will probably complain when he notices it, but he'll just have to deal with it, I think. 'Cause not long after I set it down, I got these pictures:

So, if this gets as much usse as I suspect it will, it's staying. And that's all I got to say about that!

That Time of Year

It's that time of year again. You know, the time where there is Sooper Sekert knitting happening for Kissmoose. So I can't show you what I am doing. I did pick up the gusset stitches on the hubby sock, but I didn't take a picture of it. What's to see? Grey sock with gusset stitches. Whoop tee doo da.

But I do have a picture for you.

Elvis is in da house!

Crochet Mesh Bag Done

I frogged the last attempt at a crocheted mesh bag and found a new pattern. This one (scroll down) on Turtlegirl's blog. It's well written and explained for newbies like me.

The assistant fibre inspector had to check it out:Apparently the bag passes muster! ciao

It Ain't So

A while back I bought some Corelle dishes. I have heard they are pretty much unbreakable. Not true. Raven managed it:

Yup, he was trying to get at the cheese dip leavings and pushed the plate off the counter. Fortunately, Raven is fine. A bit scared, but fine. We cuddled him back to normal.

What About Raven?

Raven wants all of you to know that he quite likes his new sister and that she makes a pretty good playmate. She does seem to have oodles of energy, so he is glad she will play withthe catnip mice and stuff on her own too.

"Hmm, my fur seems to be a little mussed" "There. That's better. Elvis sure does play alot"

Settling In

Elvis is settling in fairly well. She is still a bit jumpy. If we approach too quickly or make too fast a movement near her, she skitters off. Not far, just out of arm's reach. She is joining us at night for part of the night for a snooze, though. Which makes me happy. I am used to having kitties on the bed!

She also follows me around the house as I go about my business. The last 3 or 4 days when I came home from work, she met me at the door. So I am hopeful she will become more comfortable and affectionate as time goes on.

Mousie

The new addition to our family needed her very own mousie. According to me, anyway.

Pattern: Catnip Mouse Pattern 5

Yarn: Paton's Classic worsted, small amount

Needles: Um, dpn's size, 6ish?

Enough dry, boring stuff, on to the action shots!

ciao!

Very Little Crafting, Sad and Happy

That pretty much describes my weekend. On saturday, Ceiling Cat decided that he wanted my lovely, ornery Pagan. We loved her and miss her.
Ceiling Cat, however, sent this darling to help heal our hearts:

Everyone, say hello to Elvis!

Raven will check out anything that hits the floor. Not everything passes muster, as you can see. Romaine lettuce? Not edible

Stressed to the Max

Recently, my darling kitty Pagan was diagnosed with CRF-chronic renal failure. Basically, her kidneys are not filtering the way they should and more water is being sent out in her pee than should be. This can lead to dehydration. The vet thought that it was time to put Pagan on subcutaneous fluids. We had it done once at the vets. Then I tried to do it at the vets the next time. This was, ahem, less than successful. Pagan fought like a wildcat the whole time. She even peed. The vet gave me the equipment to do it at home saying that often the cat is much calmer at home away from strange sounds and smells etc.

So I tried it again a few days later at home. Just as big a disaster. She peed again. She fought, she howled. Trying to keep the needle in her and not wiggling around was a battle. . The IV bag didn't seem to have any air in it so it was impossible to tell how much fluid was getting in the cat. All in all, very discouraging. All those websites and people who say that it is easy to give sub-q fluids were obviously dealing with very ill cats or cats who are very laidback normally. There was 2 of us trying to do this to one kitty and it was awful.

So, in distress, I turned to a very common panacea. Chocolate! First, I made a big mess:

Then I tamed the mess into a pleasing shape:

And then...I ate it!

Didn't really solve the larger problem of getting Pagan her fluids, but it sure helped in the short term.

The View Over My Shoulder

Often, when I am surfing the net, putting together blog posts etc, Raven wants to be part of the action too. Lately he has liked to look over my shoulder. The view is thus:

Unless it takes you elevendy twelve attempts to get a good picture. In which case you get the evil eye. Thusly:ciao

New Cat Toy

(for those of you who are curious the cat toy in question is a Cat Dancer and is very popular around here)
